Larry Mullins

The Associated Press has honored him as the “Best Radio News Anchor in New York”. And as millions of New York listeners will attest, it is no surprise that broadcast news talent Larry Mullins has also been honored by the AP for “Best Newscast”. The 40-year veteran of television (NBC News) and radio has been informing and entertaining (he calls it info’taining) listeners for more than a decade, on AUDACY (formerly CBS Radio) 1010WINS New York.

His unique style, velvety-smooth baritone voice, and engaging delivery have reinvigorated the art of newscasting, which most recently earned him the coveted Edward R. Murrow Award for “Best Newscast”. Mullins has a knack for making even complex stories simple, serious stories palatable, and the quirkiest stories downright hilarious! His human inflection, emotions, and his laugh are real, and his smile can be heard in his voice. It is not unusual for listeners to comment how they actually “enjoy being stuck in the New York Rush hour” (Mullins anchors the Primetime PM Rush, Afternoon Drive newscast), to spend time hearing his rapid-fire brand of newscasting. Barrett Media just ranked his program as the sixth most popular Afternoon Drive broadcast in the USA!

The native of Orlando-Daytona Beach, Florida is also plugged into the community (An alum of the 6-time Grammy-Award winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir), host of the annual award-winning (5- time NYABJ) Black History Month showcase on 1010WINS, and for more than a decade, the lead talent for the annual New York City 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular. He also once served as the announcer voice on ABC’s “Live with Kelly & Ryan.”

He can also be seen and is quite active on YouTube and across all social media platforms, including Twitter, Tik-Tok, FaceBook, Instagram and LinkedIn, where he regularly provides sneak previews of his daily afternoon newscasts, on 1010WINS, on 92.3 fm. A devout man of faith, Mullins also hosts the very popular “The Brick” daily inspirational vignettes, which are featured all across his social media pages and on his YouTube channel, @IamLarryMullins. His approach to successful radio newscasting: Keep it simple, don’t “read” to people—but “talk” to them on the radio as if you’re chatting with a friend on the living room couch. And they’ll invite you back time and time again.

Today, Mullins shares his media wisdom with current young athletes, entertainers and business professionals with his brainchild Next Tally Concepts. NTC is a media crisis aversion unit which provides insight on how to avoid media and public relations disasters before they happen. He has a passion for saving careers by teaching the art of effective communications in the heat of battle–an impromptu broadcast interview or even on social media.

His mantra: “Your athletic prowess and talent will open doors for you…but only your spoken word and positive actions will keep them open”.
